One checkout across multiple payment rails
A commerce platform operating across markets can't treat payments as one provider integration. Processor coverage changes by country, customers expect local payment methods and authentication requirements vary between transactions. The product still has to present one checkout rather than expose that machinery to the buyer.
The team needed a shared payment layer that could coordinate Adyen, ProcessOut, Checkout.com, Worldline and Iyzico behind that checkout. We joined the existing engineering team and helped build the integration across the full payment flow, from the customer's selection through authentication and processing.
Routing, risk and payment methods in one system
Choosing a processor was only one decision in the path. Fraud controls and 3DS authentication had to work with the routing logic because the result of a risk check or authentication attempt can change how the transaction proceeds. Treating those concerns as separate integrations would have pushed failure handling and provider-specific behaviour back into the checkout.
We worked across those boundaries so routing, risk checks, authentication and processing behaved as one production system. The same layer supported card payments alongside PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Klarna, without requiring a separate checkout architecture for every method.
This public case study stops at the system boundary. The platform's routing rules, provider-selection logic and internal fraud controls remain private.
Working inside a revenue-critical product area
Payment infrastructure sits directly between a customer's decision to buy and the completed order. A provider timeout, failed authentication or inconsistent status can leave the customer unsure whether they paid and the platform unsure whether it should retry. That makes the work broader than wiring SDKs into a page.
Our role was to add engineering capacity inside the team, take responsibility for part of the checkout stack and help carry the integration through to production. The platform kept one maintainable payment model underneath the customer experience while gaining the provider and payment-method coverage it needed.
